SCVYS ran their first online Safeguarding Awareness training session on October 21. The session covered the content of the Level 1 programme, focusing in particular on the practical application of safeguarding in a voluntary youth sector setting. It was free to access for their member network, having been funded by Staffordshire Community Foundation, and was fully booked with 20 staff and volunteers from the sector..
SCVYS has recently updated the content of the session with an increased focus on Neglect as one of the local Safeguarding Children Board’s priority areas, including an introduction to child development and encouraging people to do further reading and study in this area to help them identify neglect at the earliest possible time.
Feedback was very positive from delivering key information in this way, and they have also been prompted to seek out additional resources to help those for whom English is not their first language.

SCVYS plans to run the session again before Christmas, as it is a useful means of helping the voluntary sector workforce to be up to date and fully engaged in applying good safeguarding practice to their organisations.
