The implementation of Graded Care profile 2 (GCP2) is well underway. The first train the trainer sessions have been completed with 20 of our champions now trained and licensed to train others and carry out GCP2 assessments. The two day training delivered by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) was well received by all champions leaving them with a thirst for more knowledge and to start the roll out of training to all front line staff.
Several of our champions attended the GCP2 Steering Group to share their thoughts and experiences of the training;
Jenny Cragg, Advanced Practitioner – ASYE & Social Work Education said;
“It made so much sense when we did the training and helped me realise it is really straight forward to put in practice”
Education Safeguarding Lead, Viki Hulme said;
“I was daunted at the start but during the training when we started using it I was relieved, it was brilliant, really straightforward and gave me great ideas about the language I need to use. The training has certainly taken the fear out of using the tool and and its training”
The champions discussed their experiences and ideas at the post training catch up and are now working towards the next steps. The GCP2 toolkit will be shared with each partner agency for delivery once their practitioners are trained. Work is also underway to deliver training advice sessions to champions so they can see first hand how the training is delivered by one of the leads, along with a chance to receive advice around incorporating this tool alongside the Outcome Star and Threshold document.
Overall the Board and its champions are excited with the prospect of our front line staff being better prepared to spot the signs of neglect at the earliest opportunity and work with parents and carers to minimise it and its impact on children.
