Guidance for Practitioners
Organisations in the voluntary and private sectors that work with children need to have the arrangements described in Working Together (2015) in place in the same way as organisations in the public sector, and need to work effectively with Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board.
Paid and volunteer staff need to be aware of their responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and of how they should respond to child protection concerns in line with SSCB procedures. Details of which can be found in the Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children documentation.
The SSCB have worked with the 3rd sector to produce guidance on a range of safeguarding documents which include a template for a child protection policy and procedure, information on the responsibilities of a designated lead within your organisation, guidance for staff and volunteers in terms of what to look for and who to refer to should a child be at risk of significant harm, a code of conduct for workers, how to deal with complaints and information for parents and carers. The guidance is available within Section 6A - Developing a Child Protection Policy documentation.
