SAVE THE DATE:
SAFER INTERNET DAY

Safer Internet Day is on 7th February 2012
Check out the UK Safer Internet Centre here you can find out the latest advice on how to use the internet and new technologies safely and responsibly. Also find a range of practical resources, news and events focussing on the safe and responsible use of the internet and new technologies.
From January 2011 Childnet along with the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) and the IWF will be the UK Safer Internet Centre. One of their jobs as the UK Safer Internet Centre is to get as many people involved in Safer Internet Day as possible!
It's important for all users of the internet to be aware of the consequences of their online actions - both good and bad!
Taking care, being safe and responsible online and offline is an important part of child development.
Safer Internet Day is organised by Insafe each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world. Check out their webpage and toolkit
Childnet International has produced a Safer Internet Day resource pack to help educators participate in Safer Internet Day.
Remember Safer Internet Day is not only there to remind pupils of safety messages related to the internet. Why not think about educating parent/staff bodies about the opportunities offered by the internet. Have a gaming day in school and invite pupils to become the teachers. Challenge them to come up with ideas for learning through gaming!

e-Safety
e-Safety is an issue that involves everyone, every child, every young person, every parent and every professional. By its very nature it is an extensive issue subject to a dynamism that demands constant attention and review. Yet this extensive nature can also lead to a multiplicity of messages.
Rather than develop a complete range of new materials Staffordshire has chosen to bring together messages from the key agencies and organisations that have a role in e-safety.
"In relation to child safety issues and preventative education more generally, it is well established that promoting safety through one off events, however immediately engaging they may appear to be, is unlikely to be effective in the longer run. Thus, any approach in a school setting needs to be sustained and well integrated within the curriculum.
It is also important that schools, or indeed any other agencies that may involve themselves in this type of work, have in place appropriate processes and resources to respond appropriately in the event that a child or young person who has been exposed to the materials discloses an experience of sexual or other form of abuse."
