Social Care and Health

Adult Social Care is one of the services of Staffordshire County Council. It is responsible for services to people over 18 who need care and support and works closely with Children's Services particularly supporting younger disabled people during "Transition" from the age of 14 who are receiving services from Children and Lifelong Learning. Both Children's Services and Adult Social Care are part of the People group of services which also includes Education and Skills, Community Safety and Public Health.

Adult Social Care has a lead "Commissioner" for different service areas, whose job it is to make sure that all services, including increasingly NHS services too, are organised and delivered in a way that best meets people's needs. Services are then delivered in a variety of different ways. Social work and other services for older people and those with physical disability will be delivered through the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust from April 2012, enabling much better integration with health services. Our mental health social work services are delivered through the 2 NHS mental health trusts. Learning Disability Services are delivered direct by the County Council.

We also have a responsibility to ensure the whole Staffordshire community can access services they need, whether or not they come to the Council. Staffordshire Cares is our access and information service delivered through the internet, our contact centre and local offices to make sure this happens.
