Health Services
All health professionals, in the NHS, the private sector and other settings, play an essential part in ensuring that children and families receive appropriate care, support and services they need in promoting children's health and development. The universal nature of health provision means health professionals are often the first to be aware that families may be experiencing difficulties in looking after their children.
Health Representatives on Staffordshire SCB
Designated Doctors and Nurses - these are Senior Paediatricians and Health Visitors who take the professional lead on all aspects of the health service contribution to safeguarding children. They are also a vital source of health advice on child protection matters to other professionals and to Police and Social Services departments and play an important role in promoting and influencing both training and good practice in line with SSCB policies and procedures.
General Practitioners are also represented on the SSCB as well as Public Health Specialists whose role is to advise Primary Care Trusts who will be commissioning the vast majority of health services, on the needs of all children including child protection issues.
