CAFCASS
Cafcass has a statutory responsibility in England to ensure that children and young people are put first in family proceedings, their voices are properly heard, the decisions made about them by courts are in their best interests and they and their families are supported throughout the process, no matter what form their family takes. We operate within the law set by Parliament and under the rules and directions of the family courts. Our role is to:
. safeguard and promote the welfare of children
. give advice to the family courts
. make provision for children to be represented
. provide information, advice and support to children and their families.
Cafcass is independent of the courts, social services, education and health authorities and all similar agencies.
Cafcass values the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including their active involvement, in all aspects of our work, throughout the organisation and in partnership with children and young people and their families, and with other safeguarding agencies.
